Most of the time we, women always neglect our hair and tend more to our weave (guilty) and I'm not saying taking care of your weave/extensions is a bad thing(I spend hours on my weave/extensions and my own hair) , but they should serve as only a protective style for your natural hair, the goal is to grow your own hair till it's healthy using extensions and not the other way around, explore with it (extensions) and do stuff you would typically not do with your own hair- heat styling, coloring etc!
True taking care of your own hair can be a task, there are times where you just want to chop it all off, or wish your hair would cooperate like your weave would (especially natural hair gals can testify to this). but that doesn't change the fact that it is yours, and it's growing from your scalp!!!!!!!!
So let's get into the habit of owning our own hair, finding out more about our hair and what boundaries we can and cannot push. #africangirlscanandwillgrowlongbeautifulhair.
Growing up I had terrible hair (let's be honest) and now when everyone goes "you have a lot of hair" or "you have great hair" I always reflect on when I didn't have great hair or hair that wouldn't grow past my collarbone, and now fast forward to recent years, when I finally learnt how to manage and take care of my hair. That only happen when I started embracing my hair and learning more about it.
It didn't happen overnight and trust me when I say I'm still in the trial and error phase, but my progress from when I first started is remarkable.
I'll love to go on a one month journey/challenge with my ladies where we get to learn about our hair, cultivate the habit of treating our hair like the crown it is and get rid of that stereotype that our hair can't grow or we have to be mixed before we reach a certain length.
